The GRIGRI Plus from Petzl is a well-established abseiling device with locking support for indoor and rock climbing.
It is suitable for both top-rope belaying and lead climbing. For lead climbing, we recommend setting the small lever on the back of the GRIGRI Plus to "lead" mode. This allows for easier rope payout without the Grigri Plus locking up.
The GRIGRI features a lever for a smooth and controlled descent of the climber. It is used as a standard belay device in many climbing gyms.
Anti-panic function:
The GRIGRI Plus features an anti-panic function. This is especially important if you have a less experienced climbing partner. In the event of a fall, the belayer might, due to stress, grip the hand controlling the release lever tightly.
Here, the GRIGRI Plus demonstrates another advantage over its smaller sibling. As soon as the release lever is jerked too far back (due to panic/stress), the entire device locks, preventing a fall.
